Amen Ben Koussa, also known by his stage name Amen BK, is a rapper and a songwriter. His music genre would be defined as poetry on a rap beat fused with World melodies. Advocate of conscious art, his lyrical content reflects various perspectives of themes with a loyal positive approach.

 

Debut & Career

 

He was born in Tunisia, where he devoted himself to his music. In the suburb of Tunis, Amen BK started crafting Rhythm and Poetry at an early age. He joined a local crew, called Mafio XMC's, back in the early 2000's. This was a great way for him to develop his skills and gain production experience. By 2003, he and his group mates had released a street tape and made appearances in local events, before the crew got disbanded the following year.

Around 2008, Amen BK formed the band Empire. They released numerous singles that had an impact on the Tunisian Hip Hop scene. The group succeeded to build a solid reputation that contributed to multiple tours, media appearances, and an international peace collaboration with the Hip Hop ambassadors "Remarkable Current" in 2011.

 

In 2012, he and his fiancée started the groundwork of an independent record label. The following year, he got married and moved to the USA to be with his wife. Always in touch with his creativity, he continued working on solo works and exploring new styles, while featuring with other artists. The year 2015 marks a significant milestone of his career, as he finished his first album. The project is set to be fully released in 2016, through the record label C°MANTICS that his wife launched.

 

Style & Content

 

When it comes to the style part of his works, diversity is the key feature. Different genres influences, like Classical, Blues, Jazz, Soul, Rock, Funk, Reggae, R&B, Flamenco, Opera and Desert Blues, compose the notes of his songs to make it borderless and timeless. Always faithful to his Hip Hop rhythm, he incorporates his words layered on this melodic variety. 

 

His academic background plays an important role in architecturing his lyrics. He adopts numerous school of structures, from classicism to post-modernism, to create a deep rhythmic poetry based on imagery and figures of speech. Amen BK never hesitates to introduce motifs to color his verses. His delivery methods differ from one song to another but they also get their share of diversity from storytelling to first point of view narration.

 

The content is always focused on conscious music that is meant to have positive insights from a World Citizen standpoint. It calls for peace, cultural coexistence and tolerance. It also covers social issues and a contemporary reflection on society. Other topics are the center of concerns; citing corruption, extremist ideologies and hostile political doctrines with a call to reform and thoughtful action. In addition, it also addresses spiritual matters and puts the spotlight on intimate subjects, like unconditional love, family values and life experiences. Despite the conscious essence of the majority of Amen BK’s music, it also includes an “easy-going” chapter too, to make it a richer and a well-rounded experience.
